THE

NFRC Roofing Awards 2024 - Event VisualNFRC Roofing Awards 2024 - Event Visual

Partnering with our good friends at Events Unlimited, we were tasked with delivering the annual UK Roofing Awards once again for their client, NFRC. The event would take place at the O2 Intercontinental for over 800 delegates and we would provide all the pre-registration, payment and communication systems, live event staging and QR check-in facility.

We would need to be time-sensitive with an overnight build and therefore just several hours to install all the event technology and be ready for rehearsals early AM.

As well as the main space, we needed to provide a PA system for the welcome foyer as well as a stage, PA and lighting for a live act in the afternoon on another floor of the venue.

We

Delivered

Building upon the successes of the previous year, we wanted to deliver an even more creative backdrop to these awards and add new clever features to our bespoke registration, ticketing, payment and communications system.

After various meetings to discuss both the digital platform and staging design options, 2D and 3D renders of a staging design was collaboratively agreed that would fill the wide space with a digital backdrop and large canvas to display the awards content with impact.

Our in-house digital team created a fully-bespoke online solution for event registrations, ticketing payments, table planning, email comms and e-ticket QR check-in, whilst our 3D design and graphics team worked on over x100 super-wide animated video graphics to display on the huge LED wall.

We used over 330 panels of our Absen 2.5mm LED Wall as a multi-screen backdrop to showcase the bespoke graphics in a bold and crisp fashion via Pixera media servers. We then used the outer screens for camera iMAG from our on-site camera and our cinematic range of Sony cameras including, Polecam and PTZs.

An immersive audio and lighting package was installed around the room both at ground level and flown on several trusses to bring the whole space together, this included custom triangle shaped LED strip set pieces that were flown off the ground at different depths and individually controlled.

Outside of the main event space, we supported with a background audio and announcement system for the welcome drinks area as well as staging, lighting and audio system for the after-party event in another area of the venue with entertainment from a live duo.

Event logistics were supported with our range of Motorola radios which allowed clear and instant communication across the large venue and discreet chatter when required using the supplied D-Shape earpieces.

“Just wanted to say a big thank you to you and your team for delivering an exceptional production. I got so many comments about how slick it all looked and how calm we all were. I really enjoy working with you all and am very grateful for that.”

The

Detail

We wanted to increase the amount of LED and Lighting from the previous year to create a memorable event for everyone and showcase the content in the most vivid way possible.

Video comprised of a central flown 8m x 4m LED wall, plus dual 4m x 2.5m flown screens followed by staggered 4m x 4m screens using our Absen 2.5mm PL stock. These were controlled and managed by our Novastar 4K controllers and Barco E2. Multiview video feed outputs were also sent to various screens for both back of house and front of house control positions, including showcaller.

We chose to use Pixera for our graphics playback on the large canvas to best accommodate the multiple shaped screens and give the audience the most visual experience possible.

2 sets of dual 55” presenter comfort monitors were installed for content/Autocue relay, plus 2 Autocue glass systems were installed either side of the lectern for the keynote speaker.

Video capture and iMAG was via our range of Sony broadcast cameras including FX9, FX6 (on a wireless link), Polecam jib and FX7 PTZs with control and records all managed from backstage onto our record rack including Atomos Studio II recorders. Live switching for iMAG was via our Roland switchers from backstage.

We chose to use a d&B V Series PA system to cover the large space and maximise audio impact along with some Y and T series on trusses to extend overall coverage.

The event used 8 x ways of Sennheiser G4 mics with DPA headsets, QL5 control and Dante networking as well as RIO racks.

Our team used both wired and wireless comms systems to communicate during the event which was also fed the PGM feed.

A large presentation stage was created at 2ft height and featured triangular angles on both sides and finished with grey carpet, hard fascia and 2 sets of treads.

LED fresnels were used to create a smooth and even stage wash without the element of overwhelming heat output. Follow spots and operators were positioned left and right of the room on risers to pick up awards winners as they approached the stage.

Benefiting from several flown trusses, we chose to install a full room wash of lighting utilising Ayrton Karif-LT fixtures, Chauvet Outcast moving heads, Robe Esprite, Robe Spikie and SGM Q7 floods to illuminate the event space as be able to take full control of the room state, including bringing up the brightness for audience participation elements.

10 x vintage dish lights complimented a number of Chauvet Outcast fixtures on black U-Frames between the LED walls and the lighting rig which was controlled by an Avolites Sapphire.

For the post-awards celebrations in another area of the venue, we created an intimate 3m wide x 2m stage finished with white carpet and gloss white fascia to host a live duo act. 6 x Portman LED lighting fixtures created a colourful backdrop at different heights along with x18 LED wireless uplighters and x16 Astera Titan Tubes around the room. We also supplied distributed PA for the act.

We also supported with a photo opportunity space of the venue, providing red carpet, gold/red rope and posts as well as LED Octo lights for optimal photography lighting.

Power was distributed using our 125a 3ph power distribution racks in order to provide connections for Lighting, Video and Sound. Power was all pre-planned and mapped out by our qualified electricians in advance of the event.
